يتناول موضوع هذا الكتاب الكشف عن صلة المغاربة بالإمام الشاطبي. إذ يساهم جهد الباحث في الجواب عن سؤال سبق أن طرحه الباحث المغربي سعيد بن سعيد العلوي، والذي يتصل بمدى امتلاك المدرسة الفقهية المغربية صور التمايز والاستقلال عن مثيلاتها في المشرق العربي. ويبدو أن الدراسة التي بين أيدينا تعميق للسؤال نفسه ليظهر في صيغ تعبيرية نص عليها الباحث بقوله : \"هل يمكن التحدث عن مدرسة سلفية مغربية متميزة ؟ أليس الاتجاه السلفي واحدا ولا يمس الاختلاف فيه أسس التفكير ومنهجية المعرفة ؟ كيف يمكن للسلفية أن تدعو لمبادئ وقيم المجتمع المدني ؟ ما علاقة السلفية بالسلطة السياسة.
