هذا الكتاب أدبي يعتبر أحد المؤلفات الكثيرة التي حفل بها تراثنا الإسلامي في آداب \"التعليم والمتعلمين\" وقد تناول الكتاب قواعد ومبادئ وآراء علمية مختلفة وتناول بالبحث أيضا طبقات المتعلمين وفئاتهم وما ينبغي أن يتعلمه طبقات كل فئة من العلوم، وتناول إرشاد الباحث إلى بعض القواعد الكلية المساعدة في البحث وغير ذلك وقد تناول المحتويات التالية : تمهيد لغوي وتاريخي عن مصطلح أدب الطلب، القسم الأول : الدراسة ومقدمة التحقيق، القسم الثاني : النص المحقق، الفصل الأول : الأسباب المؤدية إلى التعصب وإلى الخروج عن دائرة الإنصاف، الفصل الثاني : طبقات فئات المتعلمين وما ينبغي أن يتعلمه طلاب كل فئة من العلوم حث المؤلف لطلاب العلم على بلوغ أعلى مراتب العلم، الفصل الثالث : مباحث عامة تتضمن إرشاد الباحث إلى بعض القواعد الكلية ليستغني بها عن كثير من الجزئيات.
