يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن المماليك حيث كان النظام المملوكي الذي عاصر إنهيار خلافة بغداد من أشد الأنظمة التي قامت فوق أنقاض نظام الخلافة شذوذا وكلاسيكية معا فقد عهد لعبيد سابقين ولدوا في الجهل وعدم الوفاء بالمهمة الجسيمة المتمثلة بالدفاع عن دين النبي وتثبيته وتجسيده ولم يطرح المماليك على أنفسهم أبدا فالمجتمع العسكري الذي كانت أجياله المتتالية من العبيد الجنود تجدد صفوفه وامتلك علة وجوده الذاتية وقوة يقينه حتى إذا أخل بواجباته أو إذا تجاوز الصراع على السلطة بين أعضائه،إطاره وأثر بعنف على رعاياه.
