لم يكن التصوف إلا مظهرا من مظاهر الحياة الروحية في الإسلام التي تأثرت بما سبق وأبدعته الأمم الحضارات الأخرى والمتصوفة هم أرباب الحقيقة وطلابها سلكوا طريقا مختلفا عن تلك الطريق التي سلكها الفقهاء ومن هنا منشأ النزاع والخلاف أحيانا بين أهل الحقيقة وأهل الشريعة هذا ولقد برزت محاولات التوفيق بين الحقيقة والشريعة بفعل ما استقر من خلاف بينهما فالمتصوفة سعوا للوصول إلى الذات الإلهية بالمكابدة والتذوق والمجاهدة ونيل القرب والسعادة بالمنال وهذا الكتاب يستعرض حقيقة هذا النزاع كما يقدم قراءة في نصوص مختارة من الحلاج والغزالي.
