بالرغم من أن عبد الله القصيمي بدأ حياته في الأربعينات بتأليف الكتب الفقهية وهو الشيخ اللامع الذي تخرج من الأزهر ليصير ممثلا للوهابية في بلاد الأهرام إلا أن خروجه عن هذا الخط والمنهج واتهامه بالإلحاد والكفر كان بعد صدور كتابه المشهور \"هذه الأغلال\". وقد ارتبط بصداقة حميمة مع الأديب قدري القلعجي، وفي هذا الكتاب رسائل موجهة من الشيخ عبد الله القصيمي إلى القلعجي.
