من هنا يغطي هذا الكتاب ست وحدات : الوحدة الأولى : تتناول أصول التربية : مفهومها وأهمية دراستها وأصولها الإجتماعية والفلسفية والتاريخية والنفسية بحيث يعالج المؤلف ماذا يقصد بالتربية. أما الوحدة الثانية : فهي عن الثقافة والتربية بحيث نوقش فيها مفهوم الثقافة، وعناصرها، وملامحها، وخصائصها، وتقسيماتها المختلفة، ولماذا نهتم بدراستها ؟ وانتقلت الوحدة الثالثة : إلى دراسة الطبيعة الإنسانية لتوضيح تصور الطبيعة الإنسانية وتأثره على عمل المعلم وعلى التربية بوجه عام. وركزت الوحدة الرابعة : على الخبرة والتربية ومعالجة مفهوم الخبرة، وطبيعة الخبرة وأنواعها وخصائصها، والخبرة المربية وغير المربية، وكيف تهيء مواقف مربية داخل الفصل الدراسي ؟ والوحدة الخامسة : تتناول إقتصاديات التربية، وهذا فرع هام من فروع التربية في العصر الحديث. أما الوحدة السادسة والأخيرة : فتناقش الأدوار المتحددة للمعلم مما يساعد على تكوين رؤية نقدية لأدوار المعلم.
