في هذا الكتاب يقدم الباحث دراسة معمقة وشبه متكاملة لتاريخ اليابان الحديث، من بداية مرحلة العزلة الطوعية حتى نهاية الحرب العالمية الثانية، مستندة إلى مقولات جديدة وبعيدة عن مقولات المدرسة الإستشراقية الغربية، ومرتكزة على منهجية علمية مركبة، تحلل الظاهرة التاريخية بجوانبها المتعددة : السياسية منها والإدارية، والإقتصادية، والإجتماعية، والثقافية، وتطورها. ينبغي القول أخيرا : إن هذا الكتاب محاولة من الباحث لسد الثغرة الممثلة ينقص الدراسات المتخصصة حول تاريخ اليابان في المكتبة العربية، وإستكمال لأعماله السابقة التي سعى فيها لتحليل مقولات النهضتين الأولى والثانية في اليابان، ومدى إستفادة العرب من دروسهما.
