تظهر أهمية علم النفس بجوانب علمية وحياتية مختلفة لا تنتهي، حيث برزت أهمية علم النفس تطبيقيا ونظريا فظهرت آثاره في توظيف النظرية بمحل التطبيق فكانت على النحو الآتي : [٢] من الناحية النظرية : تكمن أهمية علم النفس نظريا بما يقدمه من دراسة هادفة للظواهر النفسية تقود إلى صياغة وتحديد القوانين العامة والضوابط الأساسية التي تحكم هذه الظواهر. من الناحية التطبيقية : أما تطبيقيا فتبرز أهمية علم النفس في توظيف القوانين العامة الضابطة للظواهر النفسية في التحكم بالسلوك الإنساني وتكيفه وقيادته نحو الاتجاهات السليمة، وقياس السلوكيات بتحديد معايير سوية السلوك وعدم سويته ومعالجة اختلاله.
