يقدم هذا الكتاب بحثا في التاريخ السياسي والاجتماعي والاقتصادي للحملات المغولية على بلاد الشام، كذلك يظهر لنا حقائق ووقائع تلك المرحلة العصيبة من تاريخنا العربي وإن في دراسة التاريخ لعبرة، وإن في دراستنا لأخبار المغول لعبرة أيضا، فالجيوش المدججة بالسلاح والعتاد لم تكن العامل المهم في انتصار المغول واجتياحهم للعواصم والمدن الإسلامية الواحدة تلو الأخرى وإنما كانت الأوضاع السياسية المضطربة للدول الإسلامية من الأسباب الهامة لانتصارات المغول، ولقد انتصر المغول على العرب وعلى المسلمين وأذاقوهم الذل والهوان والويلات عندما كانت الأمة الإسلامية شيعا وأحزابا، في كل مدينة حاكم يسيطر عليها.
