تسعى هذه الدراسة التي بين أيدينا إلى تناول شعر أبو الشيص الخزاعي حيث جمع المؤلف هذه الأشعار من بطون الكتب العربية القديمة مستندا على مصادر ومراجع قديمة وحديثة، كما تتبع المؤلف هذا الشاعر في أخباره من خلال الدراسات التي دارت حوله وفي المصادر القديمة بهدف إستقصاء معالمها وتحليل أبعادها. لذلك عزم المؤلف في كتابه هذا إلى تتبع اخبار هذا الشاعر، وفحص شعره بهدف الكشف عن النواحي الفكرية والفنية لهذا الشاعر المجيد، فناقش في الفصل الأول حياة الشاعر في حين تناول في الفصل الثاني أغراضه الشعرية، ودرس الفصل الثالث مادة الصورة عند الشاعر، أما الفصل الرابع فقد درس بناء القصيدة عند الشاعر، وقد اشفع هذا بدراسة تحليلية تطبيقية لنص من النصوص الشعرية للشاعر.
