ولد الفنان السوري الكردي عمر حمدي (1951-2015) في قرية تل نايف التابعة لمحافظة الحسكة في شمال شرق سوريا طور الفنان المعروف باسم \"مالفا\" أسلوبه الفني منذ أن كان مراهقا، وترك منزله مصطحبا لوحاته وهو لا يزال في السابعة عشرة من العمر عمِل في دمشق كناقد فني ومصمم غرافيك لمجلات محلية ولصالح وزارة التعليم عقب الإقامة لفترة قصيرة في بيروت، هرب من الحرب الأهلية اللبنانية عام 1978 مستخدما جواز سفر مزور وأخيرا استقر في فيينا ونال درجة الماجستير من جامعة شتاتسبرغر تتنوع لوحات حمدي في مواضيعها من لوحات تشخيصية واقية متجذرة في الروح الاستشراقية، وصولا إلى أعمال تجريدية تنطوي على عناصر من الطبيعة وأشكال هندسية وفي مرحلة لاحقة من حياته، لاقت أعماله إقبالا متزايدا لاقتنائها، ولا سيما تلك التي تحمل مَشاهد انطباعية منمقة.
