يتناول هذا الكتاب الذي قام بتأليفه (عبد الباسط عبد المعطي) شرح المصلحات النظرية بداية الدراسة عن معنى النظرية، والنظرية العلمية، وعلم الاجتماع واختلاف التعريف والنظريات التي تعني بعلم الإنسان والمجتمع، ويلقي نظرة عن تطور العلم من ابن خلدون إلى الآن.. مرورا بكونت، وماركس، وفيبر ويتطرق على المجتمعات الماركسية الاشتراكية والمجتمع الأمريكي إلى المجتمع العربي، ويعزي التشوه التي تلاقيه المجتمعات العربية كافة إلى آفه الاستعمار، وعن سبل إلى طريق دراسة علم الاجتماع في المجتمعات العربية وكيف أن واقعهم يسبق الفكر. فدراسة تلك المجتمعات المشوهة التي اتخذت الشيء ونقيضه، الرافضة للفكر والتفكير ومتقبله للنص دون قراءة أو وعي، بازدواجية الموقف ونقيضها، وتدفعه للتشدد والعنف اتجاه أي شيء وكل شيء مخالف عن الأطر التي وضعوها لأنفسهم وبرغم ذلك ينادون بتغيرها.
