في هذا الكتاب ترجع أسباب الحيرة عند الحسينى للاختلاف والارتباك الذى تعرض له فترة من حياته عندما انضم لصفوف حركة فتح الفلسطينية، واكتشف بعدها الآراء المختلفة التى ذهبت حول كيفية تحرير فلسطين وكيفية طرد اليهود، فهناك من ذهب إلى أن الدول العربية يجب أن تفتح أبوابها لعودة اليهود الذين هاجروا منها وهناك من رأى أن مصير اليهود الذين يعيشون على هذه الأرض ليست مشكلتنا ونفس الحيرة وجدها عندما اختلف الكثيرون على كيفية تحرير فلسطين، فمنهم من اعتبر الكفاح المسلح هو الطريق الوحيد ومنهم من رأى أن الكفاح المسلح من أجل التحرير هو الذى سيحقق وحدة عربية تخنق الدولة اليهودية ثم تجهز عليها ومنهم من رأى أن الفلسطينيين يجب أن يأخذوا قضيتهم بأنفسهم ليحرروا أرضهم.
