ان دراسة القضايا الاجتماعية تعمل على تزويد الأفراد بمهارات حل المشكلات وتساعدهم في اتخاذ القرار الصائب نحوها. كما أن دراستها لم تتوقف على مجرد تعريف الأفراد بالقضايا الاجتماعية والإحاطة بها وإنما لتولد مشاعر قوية لديهم يتأثرون بها، ويقوم العقل بوظيفته الإرشادية في توجيه هذه المشاعر نحو الرفض أو التأييد ومن ثم إكساب الفرد القدرة على تعديل سلوكه نحو المجتمع الذي يعيش فيه. كما أن دراسة هذه القضايا يزيد من وعي وإدراك الفرد بمشكلات المجتمع وتنمي لديه مهارات المناقشة والمشاركة وإبداء الرأي والثقة بالنفس وتربط الفرد بالواقع الاجتماعي المحيط به.
