Overview
تدور أحداث الرواية في فترتين مختلفتين فترة جمهورية إستونيا السوفيتية الاشتراكية وفترة جمهورية إستونيا بعد استقلالها عن الإتحاد السوفيتي. تبدأ الرواية في ظروف غامضة للغاية في الفترة الثانية. تجد البطلة سيدة عجوز فتاة شابة مغشيا عليها أمام منزلها الواقع في قرية مهجورة. ملابسها ممزقة متسخة وبلا حذاء. رغم أن البطلة لا تعلم من هى هذه الفتاة وما الذي أدى بها إلى هذه الحالة تقرر استضافتها. تعيش الفتاة مع السيدة العجوز وبداخل كل منهما أسرار تتعلق بماضيهما لا تستطيع أي منهما أن تبوح بها للأخرى. إلى أن تتفاجآن بالصدمة الكبيرة التي تكشف عن كل شيء في نهاية الرواية.
