الكتاب عبارة عن بحث يرصد من خلاله المؤلف دور جمعية الحق الفكري والاجتماعي والاقتصادي والسياسي في مدينة تريم خصوصا وحضرموت عموما ليكشف النقاب على مرحلة تاريخية متميزة في تاريخ حضرموت الحديث، وهو امتداد لكتابات عديدة لمراحل تاريخية قديمة حاولت تدوين تاريخ حضرموت الذي تشكل في ظروف معقدة مما ترك الباب مفتوحا لتساؤلات كثيرة بسبب فقدان بعض حلقات هذا التاريخ الحافل لحضرموت وكل يوم يمر علينا نقرأ كتابا فيه أو مقالا عن تاريخ حضرموت بغض النظر عن اختلاف الهدف، وتباين الرأي يكشف الغطاء عن إشكاليات الموضوعات التاريخية وتفسيرها ولكنه في نهاية المطاف يبحث عن الحقيقة في إطار العلاقات الإنسانية بالواقع المعاش على مر العصور.
