بلغة سهلة سلسلة وبسرد ممتع، يكتب مهدي حنا عن بلاده فلسطين وهو يزورها برفقة زوجته وابنه بعد انقطاع قسري قارب العقود الأربعة. وأثناء الزيارة يقوم بإجراء مقارنة بين البلاد التي عرفها في طفولته خلال زيارات سابقة، وما يراه بعد انقطاع، حيث المستوطنات وعسف المحتلين من جهة، والصمود فوق الأرض الذي يجسده الفلسطينيون كل صباح ومساء من جهة. وفي الكتاب رصد لكل ما له علاقة ببلدة الطيبة التي ينتمي إليها الكاتب، في الكتاب كذلك حديث شائق عن مدن فلسطينية أخرى زارها الكاتب بعد غياب، وفيه عرض للتطورات التي أصابت القرية الفلسطينية وجعلتها بعيدة عن الزراعة وعن طابعها القروي الزراعي السابق، وحديث مسهب عن الاقتصاد الفلسطيني في ظل الاحتلال، وعن التطورات السياسية والقوى والأحزاب، مما يجعلنا أمام كتاب يجمع بين أدب الرحلة، وسيرة الأمكنة، والبحث ف الاقتصاد والسياسة والاجتماع.
