أسئلة صعبة يطرحها هذا البحث حول علاقة \"المناطق اللبنانية\" بالسلطنة العثمانية، يتمحور الكتاب حول \"التمرد الطويل\" الذي صنع لبنان الكبير، على مدى أربعة قرون في مقاومة العثمانيين، هذا التمرد الذي غتبته المصادر التقليدية اللبنانية. لماذا وكيف حدث هذا \"التمرد؟ والسؤال الأهم : من قاده؟ وما تأثيره في خلق البيئة السياسية والعسكرية التي مهدت لنشوء \"متصرفية جبل لبنان\" المفترض أنها المدخل لقيام لبنان الكبير؟ يقدم هذا الكتاب قراءة خاصة عن كيفية تشكل لبنان مستندا إلى مصادر لم يسبق إستعمالها من قبل، ولا سيما مواد الأرشيف العثماني.
