يأتي هذا الكتاب حول المحاكاة والتخييل باعتبارهما متعلقين بالفلسفة عند اليونان وبالبلاغة والنقد الأدبي عند العرب من جهة وبما يمثلانه من دفع للقول نحو الشعرية والإرتقاء النصي نحو الإنزياح والمفارقة من جهة أخرى وقد قسمه المؤلف إلى ثلاثة فصول تعرض أول هذه الفصول لأهمية المحاكاة ودورها في إثبات القيمة الفنية للشعر سواء عند اليونان أو العرب فيما اختص الفصل الثاني بشعرية الدلالة اللغوية على اعتبار أن الشعر كلام وكل كلام يحمل دلالة ما الفصل الثالث فقد اهتم بمفهوم الشعر وماهيته عند الفلاسفة أولا لأنشغالهم بضبط حدود وماهيات الأشياء ثم تتبعت هذا المفهوم في الموروث النقدي العربي.
