الصيانة تعني حماية وحفظ الحالة التي يوجد عليها الأثر من التدهور آو التغيير المفهوم العام للصيانة يعني تطبيق عمليات مختلفة من العلاج تهدف إلي صيانة الثار والمواقع الأثرية ؛ وهذا يتضمن الصيانة والترميم والتقوية الهدف من الصيانة هو حماية المغزي والمعني الثقافي المكون له الأثر، وهذا يعني المحافظة علي الأثر بملامحه والحالة التي عليها ومادته المكون لها وإيجاد حلول لتوقف التدهور والتلف باقل تدخل ممكن وهذا يقودنا الي أن الهدف الأساسي من الصيانة هو حماية الآثر بمكوناته الفنية ومادته المكونة له والحالة التي يتواجد عليها.
