يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن تجديد الفكر العربي حيث كانت حاجتنا الماسة إلى هذا الكتاب وإلى الكثير مثله في مرحلتنا الفكرية المضطربة هذه وتجديد الفكر العربي هو العنون وهو الموضوع وفيه حاول مؤلفنا الكبير الفيلسوف والأديب الدكتور زكي نجيب محمود أن يجيب على سؤال ألح عليه إلحاحا في أعوامه الأخيرة حيث أخذته \"صحوة قلقة\" و\"إحساس بحيرة مؤرقة\" بعد أن قضى أعواما بعد أعوام منكبا على الفكر الأوربي الذ كان يظنه مثله مثل ألوف المثقفين العرب الذين فتحت عيونهم عليه هو الفكر الإنساني الذي لا فكر سواه لان عيونهم لم تفتح على غيره لتراه.
