تفتقر المكتبة العربية إلى الكتب التي تقدم سيرة حياة الشخصيات العامة التي لعبت دورا بارزا في الحياة المصرية بشكل عام بمختلف أبعادها ولكن هذا الكتاب ينفرد بهذه المهمة فيقوم دكتور رءوف عباس بتقديم العديد من الشخصيات السياسية المصرية من خلال تراجم أعدتها عنهم السفارة الأمريكية بالقاهرة والتي تمثل العيون الأمريكية والنظرة الغربية لهذه الشخصيات وذلك في الفترة بين 1951 إلى 1953م وهي السنوات التي شهدت ذروة الأزمة السياسية والاجتماعية التي أطلقتها صورة يوليو 1952م.
