يحدثنا عبدالرحمن بدوي، أحد أبرز أساتذة الفلسفة في الوطن العربي، في هذا الكتاب عن معنى الشطحات الصوفية، فيبدأ بتعريف الشطح وهو ما تشعر به النفس في الحضرة الإلهية، ويتطرق للحديث عن الحلول هنا حيث تشعر النفس أن هى الله والله هى، ويتحدث عن أسباب حدوث مثل هذه الحالة وهو الوجد الشديد مستحيل الكتمان، وهنا يفسر لنا معنى ذلك ومسبباته، ثم ينتقل عبدالرحمن بدوي للحديث عن العناصر الثلاثة للشطح والتي لا يحدث بدونها، وهي أن يكون الصوفي في حالة سكر، مع شدة الوجد، وأن تكون تجربة اتحاد. ثم يتحدث عن الخصائص التي تتميز بها الشطحات أو السمات التي نعرف بها الشطحات من غيرها. فالكتاب باختصار يحدثك عن الشطحات بأدق التفاصيل.
