\Washington Crossing the Delaware\ and the Metropolitan Museum
2011
The painting \"Washington crossing the Delaware\" (1851) by Emanuel Leutz first was exhibited in New York City in 1851. In 2011, the Metropolitan Museum of Art reinstalled the painting after four years of study that included conservation treatment and reframing. The goal was to determine the artist's intentions for display before putting the iconic painting back on exhibit. \"Washington crossing the Delaware\" is seen as representative of both Leutzs political ideology and his evolution of artistic technique.
