Implications of digital fertility tracking for clinical care: a qualitative systematic review

2025
Research on the use of digital health interventions for the management of infertility is still emerging and remains understudied. This review syntheses cross-domain qualitative research on the use of digital fertility trackers. We identified 29 papers and thematic analysis found that these tools are most frequently used alongside, but also sometimes in place of clinical care. The research shows that they pose significant disruption to patient-provider relationships and the broader fertility industry and may place patients at risk when developed without a strong research or medical base, or if used incorrectly. More work is needed on the impact of these tools on care pathways, and to provide guidance on differentiating evidence-based platforms from low quality trackers to safeguard patients and improve fertility treatment outcomes.
Plain English Summary
Research on using digital technologies such as apps to manage infertility is still new and not well studied. This literature review looked at 29 studies and articles on how people use digital fertility trackers either alongside or instead of fertility care in clinic or hospital settings. While these tools are often used by people in tandem with care from a healthcare professional, authors suggest they disrupt the relationship between patients and providers and may be changing the fertility industry itself. If these tools are poorly designed or used incorrectly, they can put patients at risk. More research is needed to understand how these tools affect fertility care and to help people and healthcare professionals identify high-quality trackers that are safe and effective.

An analysis of the energy efficiency, range, and attributable emissions of electric vehicles, and an assessment of the United States Department of Energy Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Program from 1976-2000
2004
Over the last decade, much attention has focused on the efforts of the federal government and private industry working together through public-private partnerships to develop electric and hybrid vehicle technologies. These efforts have taken place principally through the United States Advanced Battery Consortium (USABC) and the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV). Generally not appreciated is the extent of federal government investment in electric and hybrid vehicle research and development (R&D) that predates the USABC and PNGV ventures. The U.S. Department of Energy's Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Program (EHV Program) was established through an act of Congress in 1976 and has operated continuously since that time. The EHV Program has made significant contributions to the development of advanced battery technology. The program has funded research in fourteen distinct battery chemistries, has helped to establish a technology infrastructure in the field of battery development. This thesis has two guiding questions. First, what is it that makes developing adequate batteries for electric and hybrid vehicles so challenging? Second, what can and should the federal government do to hasten development of battery technologies for these advanced vehicles? In response to the first question, an analysis of the energy requirements of electric vehicles is presented, estimating vehicle range, efficiency, and emissions benefits based on available technology. Emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and carbon dioxide (CO2) are considered, and compared to conventional heat engine vehicles to estimate the potential reductions in transportation sector emissions. To address the second question, a review of technology policy since the Ford administration is presented. This discussion provides a background necessary to interpret the waxing and waning fortunes of the EHV Program over more than a quarter century. Reviews of government documents and interviews with battery development experts and government officials are used to provide insight into the goals and funding priorities of the EHV Program, and to evaluate the program's effectiveness.

Terminal Expansions Aid Permian Basin Exports
2019
[...]recently, pipeline capacity constraints have dampened wellhead prices for the region's oil producers. [...]investors are looking beyond the Houston Ship Channel to other West Texas ports, such as Corpus Christi. According to the U.S. Corp of Engineers, the amount of accumulation each year would be enough to create a four-lane highway, four feet deep, stretching from New York to Los Angeles.

Perceptions of principals affiliated with Holmes Group Universities regarding their roles as administrators of Professional Development Schools
1994
The purpose of this study was to survey the perceptions of elementary and secondary principals affiliated with Holmes Group Universities regarding their roles as administrators of Professional Development Schools. A second purpose was to assess the principals' perceptions of the importance and emphasis of selected professional growth and development objectives in their performance as principals of Professional Development Schools. Data were gathered from 71 Deans of Education and 40 principals of Professional Development Schools. The respondents revealed that School Climate and Culture was the most important and most emphasized professional growth and development objective. The least emphasized professional growth and development objective pertained to Fiscal and Financial Management. In all cases the domains were perceived higher in importance than emphasis. Domain 2, School Climate and Culture, was the only domain where there was not a significant difference between the perceived level of importance and emphasis. Additional studies might explore the administrator's role in the management of Professional Development Schools. Also studies on university administrator preparation should focus on changes in preparing principals for Professional Development Schools. Further research is needed to establish a clearinghouse of these initiatives in order to advance and strengthen educational reform. Additional studies might also address school university partnerships which have also gained the support of business and social agencies within their respective communities.

Japan revives an ailing economy ; Entrepreneurial spirit replacing historical ties
2000
In many ways [Shotaro Watanabe], 64, is a typical Japanese manager. He has spent his entire career at Kao. He has never worked abroad. He greets foreign visitors with a polite bow and an apology for his inability to converse in English. But get him talking about how he runs his business and Watanabe sounds as though he's channelling the spirit of General Electric Co.'s hard-charging chief executive, Jack Welch. Watanabe speaks with near-religious zeal about \"shareholder value,\" boosting \"return on equity\" and scrapping business lines that don't make money. Watanabe's is the voice of a new Japan. His eager endorsement of competition and profits is one of many signals that inhabitants of this traditionally risk-averse, group-oriented society are learning to love, or at least to live with, freer markets.
