How Do You Mend a Broken Heart? Ask a Librarian
order=\"0\" lang=\"eng\">We did not grow up with a great school library. It wasn't even very good. The library at St. Mark's School in Peoria, Illinois, was a dusty, windowless room in the basement. Looking back it's clear there was no budget whatsoever. All the books were donated, which in our day meant a lot of Leon Uris and James Michener. Still, we relished every visit to the school library because there was always a chance you'd find a Trixie Belden novel with the name of a glamorous upper-grader written in cursive inside the front cover: \"This book belongs to Bernadette Dries.\" Years later, when we started visiting schools to talk about our creative process, we were blown away by the quality of the school libraries. All those new books! The rows of glossy magazines! Comfy chairs! Plus sewing machines, cake pans, fishing poles, and bikes--all free for the borrowing.
The show must go on!
Two mice and a crow, who travel with a circus, cleaning up the spilled popcorn after every performance, come to the rescue when a greedy con artist takes over the management of the circus.
PRAIRIE, PATCHED
I thought I was doing okay after a long-term relationship ended-- until I found a pack rat in my lawn mower. A few weeks later I burst into tears in a crowded restaurant as I told my mom about the breakup. And the pack rat. \"It built a nest in the engine,\" I said, sobbing. \"It chewed through the mower's electrical system. So I'm thinking about moving to Savannah. I've never been there, but I love Spanish moss.\" I'm sure I sounded nuts. Friends and family warned me not to make any...
The Greatest Star on Earth
As the performers in Sir Sidney's circus discover that friendship and teamwork are more important than winning a trophy for The Greatest Star on Earth, circus mice Bert and Gert write a book on how to be kind for rotten ringmaster-in-training Barnabas Brambles to read.
TV EXPOSURE DESCRIBED BY LEADERS AS `PRICELESS
WHAT DO three days of \"Regis and Kathie Lee\" on location in Branson mean to Branson's economy? \"But the real value comes from the fact that Regis and Kathie Lee are seen as close friends to their viewers,\" says [Beth] Wanser. \"When Regis and Kathie Lee come to Branson and say they like it, it's like hearing it from your neighbor or best friend.\" Since last week's show, Dawn Erickson, communications director to the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, said, \"We've seen about a 50 percent increase in calls to the Chamber requesting information about Branson.\"
The Loch Ness punster
Twelve-year-old Seymour Hope and his ghostly \"mother\" Olive go to Scotland to claim a castle inherited from Ignatius Grumply's punster uncle, Ian, but while they tend an aged tortoise and face an unscrupulous developer, Iggie deals with Ian's ghost and an inept insurance agent.
LIVE FROM BRANSON REGIS, KATHIE LEE PLAY WELL IN SHOW-ME-STATE
It's a commercial break during the taping of \"Live With Regis & Kathie Lee,\" which last week broadcast three shows from the Grand Palace in Branson. While Gifford and the audience are engaged in a love-fest (\"We love you Kathie Lee!\" \"I love you too, Mom!\"), Philbin is doing his inimitable shtick, which always walks the precarious line between insulting and endearing. Example: When a woman from the audience yells \"Come to Canada!\" for the second time, Gifford's response is \"Reege, that woman's from Canada.\" Philbin, never one to take this \"Come to Canada!\" sort of thing lying down, fires back: \"Listen lady, the Royal Canadian Police are looking for you!\" It's vintage Regis and classic Kathie Lee. And the audience is loving every minute of it, especially these off-air minutes when they get a chance to chat, even at a holler's distance, with the morning talk-show duo who have made an art (and a darn good living) out of chatting.
