Lying along the Yucatan-Campeche border, the ruins of Yaxche Xlabpak have been known for over a century and its stelae platform since 1987. Explorations of the site over the last two decades have revealed additional information on this ancient urban center, and a re-examination of three of its stelae have revealed new details of their content. In combination, this new information indicates that Yaxche Xlabpak arose as a Late Preclassic center, reached its zenith in the Late Classic period when its rulers were commemorated on a series of stelae, before being eclipsed by neighboring centers in the Terminal Classic.
