College athletes perception of care provided by certified athletic trainers
Purpose. The purpose of this study was to examine the perception of the quality of care that athletes receive from their ATC. Problem. Certified Athletic Trainers provide care for many athletes. It is important to make sure that the athletes are satisfied with the care that they receive. Method. A descriptive type design was used for this study. The Student Athlete Response Form, created by Scott Unruh, ATC, was the instrument that was used. Subjects were 203 student athletes from Washington and Jefferson College and California University of Pennsylvania. Findings. Division III athletes had a significantly higher perception of care (200.34±9.30) than Division II athletes (193.25±13.08). It was found that women's basketball had a higher perception of care (204.05±2.13) than softball (195.43±12.59) and women's soccer (194.22±15.20). Conclusion. College athletes are highly satisfied with the care they receive from Certified Athletic Trainers.

Nanotechnology solutions for the climate crisis
Climate change is one of humankind’s biggest challenges, leading to more frequent and intense climate extremes, including heatwaves, wildfires, hurricanes, ocean acidification, and increased extinction rates. Nanotechnology already plays an important role in decarbonizing critical processes. Still, despite the technical advances seen in the last decades, the International Energy Agency has identified many sectors that are not on track to achieve the global climate mitigation goals by 2030. Here, a multi-stakeholder group of nanoscientists from the public, private, and philanthropic sectors discuss four high-potential application spaces where nanotechnologies could accelerate progress: batteries and energy storage; catalysis; coatings, lubricants, membranes, and other interface technology; and capture of greenhouse gases. This Comment highlights opportunities and current gaps for those working to minimize the climate crisis and provides a framework for the nanotechnology community to answer the call to action on this global issue.
Significant Physiological Disturbances Associated With Non-Routine Event Containing and Routine Anesthesia Cases
OBJECTIVESA nonroutine event (NRE) is defined as any event that deviates from ideal clinical care for a given patient in a specific clinical situation. We sought to compare anesthesia providers’ reporting of NREs with the incidence of significant physiological disturbances (SPDs) detected via retrospective videotape review. SPD criteria were defined prestudy to be deviations of physiological parameters (heart rate, systolic blood pressure, and oxygen saturation) requiring clinical intervention. We hypothesized that SPDs would occur more frequently in NRE cases than in routine (no reported NRE) cases. METHODSA trained observer reviewed videotapes of anesthesia care from 16 randomly selected NRE-containing and 16 matched routine cases for SPD occurrence using custom software. Data were analyzed using nonparametric tests. RESULTSAlthough a preponderance of the anesthetic in both types of cases were uneventful (i.e., free of SPD in 97 ± 1.6% of routine case time versus 89 ± 3.9% of NRE case time), there was at least one SPD episode in 69% of routine and 88% of NRE cases. NRE-containing cases had significantly more SPDs than routine cases (1.4 ± 0.9 SPDs/case hour for NRE versus 0.8 ± 0.3 for routine cases). Twice as many SPDs during NRE-containing cases were clinically related to a reported NRE as opposed to unrelated. CONCLUSIONSSPDs occur more often in NRE-containing cases. The incidence of approximately one NRE-independent SPD per case was similar in NRE-containing and routine case. Further research is needed to ascertain the relationship of both NREs and SPDs to patient outcomes.
The Islamic Golden Age and the caliphates
\"The Islamic empire arose spectacularly in the 7th century and exercised influence over a large geographic area until its fall to Mongol invaders in the 13th century. The rulers, called caliphs, ushered in a new Islamic civilization with customs and practices both distinct from and partially influenced by those of the areas it conquered. The reigns of these caliphates, including the Abbasid caliphate, which presided at the time of the Islamic Golden Age, are surveyed in this ... volume\"--Amazon.com.
5 Mentoring Mythbusters
Today's employees are looking for connection to their workplace, learning opportunities, and career guidance. Formal mentoring programs fill that need, but common myths about mentoring persist. These include the need to have a plan, know everything, age matters, it takes so much time, and fix all the problems.
Marco Polo : epic traveler throughout Asia
Upon returning to his native Venice from a nearly 25-year journey through Asia, Marco Polo fueled the Western imagination with his tales about the splendors of the East. This lively biography follows Marco s intrepid family as they navigate the spice stalls, caravansaries, and dangers that once populated the Silk Road and enter Kublai Khan s Mongol court in China, where they served as advisors. Readers will learn about the Polos importance as cultural emissaries at a time of limited global exchange and how Marco s account of their travels, whether fact or fiction, heralded the later golden age of exploration.
