Chargers outlast stubborn Obion -- Yards are hard to come by in Region 7-3A win
\"During halftime we emphasized the mistakes that we made in the first half and we corrected them,\" [Jay Murphee] said. \"We noticed that we were having success using the quarterback running the ball, and we really wanted to take advantage of this in the second half.\" Even though [Steven Hoskins] had a good night, it would be the special team that brought the victory home for the Chargers. They recovered an onsides kick after Obion's last touchdown. The Charger offense made one more first down and drained the clock. The powerful Covington rushing attack was held in check in first half. Senior running back Rodney Gude picked up only 13 yards on 5 carries and junior running back Thomas Hall was limited to 7 yards in 5 tries. Although the Chargers found yards tough to come by, Obion wasn't moving the ball either. Covington led 8-0 at halftime.

On the Cougars' next possession, senior running back Malcolm Walker pushed the Cougars down the field on carries of 1, 6 and 53 yards. The drive was topped off by another [Mitch Huelsing] touchdown from a yard out. The second half began much like the first ended with Ripley scoring this time on a 51-yard touchdown run by [Andrew Johnson], which gave the Tigers a 21-14 lead. From that point, things began to unravel for the Cougars as they turned the ball over on a fumble by Huelsing deep in their own territory on their first series of the second half. The Cougar defense stopped the Tigers on three consecutive plays, but on fourth and 4 from the Cougar 9, the Tigers scored again, taking a 28-14 lead. Huelsing finished the evening with three completions for 53 yards and a touchdown and two carries for 2 yards and two touchdowns.
