The Relationships between Physical Activity and Life Satisfaction and Happiness among Young, Middle-Aged, and Older Adults
Physical activity has benefits on physical and psychological health. The aims of this study were to investigate (1) the relationships between physical activity and life satisfaction and happiness in young, middle-aged, and older adults while controlling for demographic characteristics, and (2) the relationships between age and life satisfaction and happiness for different physical activity levels. A total of 2345 healthy adults were recruited. Demographic characteristic, physical activity, life satisfaction, and happiness were collected. Participants were divided into young, middle-aged, and older adult groups based on age, and physical activity was categorized as high, moderate, and low. After controlling for demographic characteristics, participants with high and moderate activity levels had significantly higher life satisfaction and happiness than those with a low activity level across the total population and the three age groups. Age squared was a significant predictor of a positive curvilinear between age and life satisfaction and happiness. Physical activity was significantly related to life satisfaction and happiness in young, middle-aged, and older adults. In addition, life satisfaction and happiness increased with increasing age. The results support the promotion of physical activity.
Supersymmetric BMS4 algebras revisited: electric/magnetic superalgebras and free field realization
A bstract In this work, we present a systematic classification of supersymmetric extensions of the BMS 4 algebra and their realizations in free field theories. By requiring that supercharges admit finite-dimensional subsectors, we identify ten distinct electric super BMS 4 algebras and six magnetic ones. The electric case is characterized by supercharge anticommutators closing on supertranslations, while the magnetic case necessarily involves superrotations. To realize these algebras in free field theories, we follow a constructive procedure: first identify the modes bilinears of which generate the symmetry algebra, then determine the fields with appropriate transformation properties under the BMS 4 algebra, and finally construct consistent theories whose equations of motion admit the desired supersymmetry. Notably, R -symmetry with nonvanishing spin is essential for the Type II-II, Type I-II, and Type II-I magnetic super BMS 4 algebras, shedding new light on spacetime structure of string theory for flat holography. Moreover, in the Type I-I theory, R -symmetry relates electric and magnetic scalars, indicating their equal significance. In addition, R -symmetry maps the electric scalar to a spin-1 field and vice versa, offering a novel perspective on supersymmetric extensions of soft theorems.
The effects of perceived luxury value on customer engagement and purchase intention in live streaming shopping
PurposeNowadays, more and more Chinese consumers purchase luxury goods on live streaming platforms. However, the existing literature rarely focuses on this emerging phenomenon. This article attempts to construct a theoretical model based on the perceived value theory to explain this phenomenon.Design/methodology/approachIn total, 354 online questionnaires are collected, and the partial least square structural equation model is used to analyze the model empirically.FindingsThe results show that consumers' perceived luxury values (financial value, functional value, individual value and social value) have a significant and positive effect on customer engagement, which further leads to purchase intention.Originality/valueIn view of fact that there is a big difference between luxury goods and nonluxury goods, yet the existing literature rarely distinguishes between luxury goods and nonluxury goods in the context of live streaming shopping, this article attempts to use perceived value theory to examine consumers' luxury purchase intentions in live streaming shopping and explores whether customer engagement is a mediating mechanism of perceived luxury values that influences purchase intention in live streaming.
A story of birth and death: mRNA translation and clearance at the onset of maternal-to-zygotic transition in mammals
In mammals, maternal-to-zygotic transition (MZT), or oocyte-to-embryo transition, begins with oocyte meiotic resumption due to the sequential translational activation and destabilization of dormant maternal transcripts stored in the ooplasm. It then continues with the elimination of maternal transcripts during oocyte maturation and fertilization and ends with the full transcriptional activation of the zygotic genome during embryonic development. A hallmark of MZT in mammals is its reliance on translation and the utilization of stored RNAs and proteins, rather than de novo transcription of genes, to sustain meiotic maturation and early development. Impaired maternal mRNA clearance at the onset of MZT prevents zygotic genome activation and causes early arrest of developing embryos. In this review, we discuss recent advances in our knowledge of the mechanisms whereby mRNA translation and degradation are controlled by cytoplasmic polyadenylation and deadenylation which set up the competence of maturing oocyte to accomplish MZT. The emphasis of this review is on the mouse as a model organism for mammals and BTG4 as a licensing factor of MZT under the translational control of the MAPK cascade. Summary Sentence This review highlights the new mechanisms that regulate maternal mRNA translation and degradation during oocyte meiotic cell cycle progression and oocyte-to-embryo transition.
Constructing Carrollian field theories from null reduction
A bstract In this paper, we propose a novel way to construct off-shell actions of d -dimensional Carrollian field theories by considering the null-reduction of the Bargmann invariant actions in d +1 dimensions. This is based on the fact that d -dimensional Carrollian symmetry is the restriction of the ( d + 1)-dimensional Bargmann symmetry to a null hypersurface. We focus on free scalar field theory and electromagnetic field theory, and show that the electric sectors and the magnetic sectors of these theories originate from different Bargmann invariant actions in one higher dimension. In the cases of massless free scalar field and d = 4 electromagnetic field, we verify the Carrollian conformal invariance of the resulting theories, and find that there appear naturally chain representations and staggered modules of Carrollian conformal algebra.
Structure of Carrollian (conformal) superalgebra
A bstract In this work, we investigate possible supersymmetric extensions of the Carrollian algebra and the Carrollian conformal algebra in both d = 4 and d = 3. For the super-Carrollian algebra in d = 4, we identify multiple admissible structures, depending on the representations of the supercharges with respect to the Carrollian rotation. Some of these structures can be derived by taking the speed of light c → 0 limit from super-Poincaré algebra, but others are completely novel. In the conformal case, we derive nontrivial Carrollian superconformal algebras in dimensions d = 4 and d = 3. Among these, the superconformal algebra in d = 4 and one of the algebras in d = 3 exhibit isomorphisms to the super-Poincaré algebras in d = 5 and d = 4, respectively. Additionally, we identify a novel, nontrivial superconformal algebra in d = 3 that is not isomorphic to any super-Poincaré algebra. Remarkably, neither of these constructions requires R-symmetry to ensure the algebraic closure. Given that BMS 4 algebra constitutes the infinite-dimensional extension of the d = 3 Carrollian conformal algebra, their supersymmetric extension gives rise to nontrivial superconformal Carrollian algebras. Specifically, we demonstrate the existence of a singlet super-BMS 4 algebra emerging from the extension of the d = 3 Carrollian superconformal algebra, as well as a multiplet super-BMS 4 algebra that does not admit this methodology, as its finite-dimensional subalgebra incorporates supercharges with conformal dimension ∆ = ± 3 2 .
Long non‐coding RNA UCA1 contributes to the progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma by regulating the WNT/β‐catenin signaling pathway
With the development of functional genomics studies, a mass of long non‐coding RNAs (LncRNA) were discovered from the human genome. Long non‐coding RNAs serve as pivotal regulators of genes that are able to generate LncRNA–binding protein complexes to modulate a great number of genes. Recently, the LncRNA urothelial carcinoma‐associated 1 (UCA1) has been revealed to be dysregulated, which plays a critical role in the development of a few cancers. However, the role of the biology and clinical significance of UCA1 in the tumorigenesis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remain unknown. We found that UCA1 expression levels were upregulated aberrantly in tongue squamous cell carcinoma tissues and associated with lymph node metastasis and TNM stage. We explored the expression, function, and molecular mechanism of LncRNA UCA1 in OSCC. In the present work, we revealed that UCA1 silencing suppressed proliferation and metastasis and induced apoptosis of OSCC cell lines in vitro and in vivo, which might be related to the activation level of the WNT/β‐catenin signaling pathway. Our research results emphasize the pivotal role of UCA1 in the oncogenesis of OSCC and reveal a novel LncRNA UCA1–β‐catenin–WNT signaling pathway regulatory network that could contribute to our understanding in the pathogenesis of OSCC and assist in the discovery of a viable LncRNA‐directed diagnostic and therapeutic strategy for this fatal disease. Our data highlighted the pivotal role of UCA1 in the tumorigenesis of oral squamous cell carcinoma, and revealed a novel LncRNA UCA1‐β‐catenin‐Wnt signaling pathway regulatory network, which may contribute to understand the pathogenesis of oral squamous cell carcinoma.
Neonatal Sevoflurane Exposure Impairs Learning and Memory by the Hypermethylation of Hippocampal Synaptic Genes
Sevoflurane anesthesia is widely used in pediatric patients. Clinical studies report memory impairment in those exposed to general anesthesia early in life. DNA methylation is essential for the modulation of synaptic plasticity through regulating the transcription of synaptic genes. Therefore, we tested whether neonatal sevoflurane exposure affects learning and memory underlying the hippocampal DNA methylation of synaptic genes. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to 3% sevoflurane or air for 2 h daily from postnatal day 7 (P7) to P9. 5-aza-2-deoxycytidine (5-AZA), an inhibitor of DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs), was intraperitoneally injected 30 min before sevoflurane or air exposure on P7–9. The rats were euthanized 6, 12, 24 h, and 28 days after the last sevoflurane exposure, followed by the determination of global and gene-specific DNA methylation. The expression of synaptic proteins and synaptic density and the transcription of Dnmts and ten eleven translocations (Tets) in the hippocampus were measured. The ability of learning and memory was assessed using Morris water maze, novel object recognition, and intruder tests. Repeated neonatal sevoflurane exposure impaired cognitive, social, and spatial memory. The memory impairment was associated with the increased Dnmt1, Dnmt3a, and 5-methylcytosine level and the decreased Tet1 and 5-hydromethylcytosine level. Sevoflurane subsequently induced hypermethylation of Shank2 , Psd95 , Syn1 , and Syp gene and down-regulated the expression of synaptic proteins, which finally led to the decrease of synaptic density in a time-dependent manner. Notably, 5-AZA pretreatment ameliorated learning and memory in sevoflurane-treated rats. In conclusion, neonatal exposure to sevoflurane can impair learning and memory through DNA methylation of synaptic genes.
Path-integral quantization of tensionless (super) string
A bstract In this work, we study the tensionless (super)string in the formalism of path-integral quantization. We introduce BMS bc and βγ ghosts intrinsically by accounting for the Faddeev-Popov determinants appeared in fixing the gauges. We then do canonical quantization and obtain the critical dimensions for different tensionless strings. We find that among four kinds of tensionless superstrings, the 𝒩 = 2 homogeneous and inhomogeneous doublet tensionless superstrings have the same critical dimension as the usual superstrings. Taking the BMS bc and βγ ghosts as new types of BMS free field theories, we find that their enhanced underlying symmetries are generated by BMS-Kac-Moody algebras, with the Kac-Moody subalgebras being built from a three-dimensional non-abelian and non-semi-simple Lie algebra.
