Understanding Teachers Perception and Management of Stuttering in Early Childhood Education
lexical retrieval and conversation flow, there has been limited scholarly attention on how it is perceived and managed by teachers in the Nigerian context. Therefore, using a descriptive quantitative research design and multistage sampling techniques, 73 teachers drawn from 9 purposively selected primary schools in Osun State, Nigeria were randomly sampled in this study. A significant majority of the teachers, 68.4% do not see stuttering as a significant barrier to learning. However, 23.4% expressed opposing view, suggesting that stuttering constitutes a barrier to learning to an extent. Also, 35.8% of the respondents disturbingly admitted that engaging stutters was frustrating, 11% shared the belief that children who stutter are less intelligent than their peers while 10.9% reiterated that unmanaged cases can significantly affect emotional well-being and academic achievement of stuttering children. Unfortunately, 53.3% of the respondents never or rarely had access to professional development opportunities related to stuttering management and 61.6% have never collaborated or rarely team up with speech-language pathologist or other professional to support children who stutter. In all, the study adds to the existing studies on stuttering awareness and contends further that primary school teachers' understanding of its intricacies and manifestations, together with timely support and effective interdisciplinary measures are key to managing the condition and its associated effects on early childhood education and at the long run, adult life of stutters.
Pain and Gain
When children are abused, they are traumatized at the most crucial period of their lives in which their personality is still developing. Consequently, they suffer from several problems that continue to plague them into their adulthood. On the contrary, the trauma that happens during adulthood affects the personality that is already formed (Herman, 1992, p. 96). This paper aims to investigate the long term consequences of childhood abuse in Paula Vogel's play How I Learned to Drive (1997) based on Judith Herman's views in her book Trauma and Recovery (1992). It examines two psychological disorders proposed by Herman that the characters suffer from: post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex post traumatic stress disorder (c-PTSD). Additionally, it introduces the different types of abuse Li'l Bit experiences and the risk factors that make her more vulnerable to abuse. Moreover, it shows how trauma can be transferred from one generation to another. It further investigates the complicated nature of the relationship between Li'l Bit and Uncle Peck, elaborating her psychological motives behind meeting him. Finally, the paper elaborates Li'l Bit's journey of self-discovery being the play's protagonist and main victim of childhood trauma.
Exploring Saudi Teachers' Views on the Assessment Approach of Learning Stories in Saudi Arabia's Classroom Settings
Early childhood education has become a focus of government policy across the world. Part of the present increased interest in early childhood education has been a focus on curriculum frameworks and socio/cultural methods of assessment. Currently, New Zealand has emerged as a world leader in early childhood education, and observation and assessment techniques, developed in New Zealand, have become an international focus of research and pedagogic practice. One exemplar practice to have emerged from research in New Zealand is the assessment of children's learning called Learning Stories. This present research explored the introduction of Learning Stories into Saudi Arabia and investigated the potential of Learning Stories as an assessment tool for early childhood practitioners in the context of Saudi Arabia.
The Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Children's Lives
This study suggests remedies for the negative effect of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the lives of children. It aims to determine the extent to which the children's social lives, behavior, and cultures have been affected by the pandemic, and proposes appropriate plans and solutions to help them return to the lives they were accustomed to before the pandemic. This study's problem is linked to the adverse effects on children resulting from preventive measures applied to stop the spread of the virus, including social distancing, closing schools and other facilities, and introducing quarantines. Despite the reality that these measures were aimed at protecting communities, they have affected children's psychological and social health and educational and cultural lives. On the other hand, violence against children has significantly increased, as studies conducted in various countries have concluded. This study is crucial because it draws attention to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on children's lives, as these children are the future leaders. It concludes that most children worldwide have been affected since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the impact differing based on culture, family, cultural, and economic components. The study's recommendations attempt to encourage the implementation of plans that match the age groups of children to deal with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic before these children return to everyday life so as not to be shocked when they discover that things have changed for good.
