Constitution for a Disunited Nation
This collection is the most comprehensive account of the Fundamental Law and its underlying principles. The objective is to analyze this constitutional transition from the perspectives of comparative constitutional law, legal theory and political philosophy. The authors outline and analyze how the current constitutional changes are altering the basic structure of the Hungarian State. The key concepts of the theoretical inquiry are sociological and normative legitimacy, majoritarian and partnership approach to democracy, procedural and substantive elements of constitutionalism. Changes are also examined in the field of human rights, focusing on the principles of equality, dignity, and civil liberties.
Chromosome-scale assembly of European flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) genotypes and pangenomic analysis provide genomic tools to improve breeding
Decoding the genome of cultivated species is one of the key starting points for supporting marker-assisted selection to accelerate breeding programmes. To date, five to six flax genotypes, including fiber flax, linseed and related wild flax, mainly from Canada, China and Russia, have been sequenced and assembled. But no genome assembly was available for Western European flax cultivar, although France is the world's leading producer of fiber flax (85% of world production). The Canadian oilseed flax cultivars CDC Bethune have been mainly used as reference for studies and breeding activities. The best assembly to date was the Chinese fiber Yiya5 assembly, which had the best metric of all the flax genome assemblies available. Recent analyses have shown that up to 30% of fiber flax reads from different origins do not map to the oilseed genome. Thus, much genetic information could be neglected using the oilseed genome as a reference. In this study, we sequenced, assembled and annotated the genomes of four European flax cultivars (two fiber Bolchoï and Idéo; two oilseed Marquise and Attila) and present the first flax pangenome. ONT Minion long reads sequence data were -assembled using Flye, -polished, validated and organised into hybrid scaffolds using optical map data (Bionano Genomics), and finally anchored into fifteen T2T pseudomolecules for each genotype using the fiber flax Yiya5 assembly. The final genome size reached 437, 441, 442 and 453 Mb for Idéo, Marquise, Attila and Bolchoï, respectively. Approximately 47,000 protein-coding genes were annotated for each genotype. For the first time, a pangenome graph were constructed for ten flax cultivars, including our four assemblies and six publicly available assemblies (CDC Bethune, Longya10 and Line 3896, Heiya-14, Yiya5 and Atlant). The total pangenome graph size was 835.77 Mbp with the core pangenome size of 172.2 Mbp. A total of 74,123 non-redundant orthologous proteins representing panproteome were identified. The pangenome results should be interpreted with caution given the quality of the publicly available genomes. This study with the resources generated, is a step forward for the development of genomic and genetic tools, useful for the improvement of Western European flax characterization and breeding.
Olbia in the Hunnic Time. A Historical Perspective
In this paper, the author presents the historical background of the period of functioning of the site of Olbia in the Gothic and Hunnic periods. He presents the most important studies on the Goths and Huns in recent decades, reconstructs the course of the Gothic wars (third to sixth centuries) and analyses selected sagas of Germanic mythology. On the basis of this and using the results of the recent archaeological excavations, he formulates the thesis that Olbia, functioning in the Gothic period from the 3rd/4th centuries to the beginning of the 5th century AD, could have been an important administrative centre of pagan Goths who actively fought against their Christianized brethren. He also hypothesizes that it can be identified with the land of Oium (Olbium) and with the Árheimar á Danparstoeðum, the capital of Reiðgotaland, mentioned in the oldest Germanic sagas.
The influence of the forest corridors to the north of the Andes on the diversification of the bright‐rumped Attila, Attila spadiceus (Passeriformes, Tyrannidae), during the climatic oscillations of the middle Pleistocene
This study aims to enhance our understanding of the temporal and spatial processes scales governing the evolutionary diversification of Neotropical birds with Trans‐ and Cis‐Andean populations of the species Attila spadiceus from South and Central America. Through a multilocus analysis of the mitochondrial (CytB and ND2) and nuclear genes (I7BF, I5BF, and G3PDH) of 41 samples representing six subspecies, we describe the existing molecular lineages of A. spadiceus, and estimate their demographic dynamics. We used Ecological Niche Modeling (ENM) with six different algorithms to predict the potential distribution of A. spadiceus in both present‐day and past scenarios, examining the overlap climatic niche between Cis‐ and Trans‐Andean lineages. The analysis confirms a relatively recent divergence of the Trans‐ and Cis‐Andean lineages, at approximately 0.25 million years ago (Ma). The niche modeling supports the existence of a dynamic scenario of the expansion and retraction of forest corridors in northwestern South America during the last glaciation. This suggests that the earlier orogenesis of the Andes was not a primary determinant of this dichotomy. Additionally, the analysis of population dynamics indicated a trend of increasing population size starting at 0.05 Ma for both lineages. Our findings highlight the significance of Pleistocene Forest corridors north of the Andes as the key factor maintaining communication before the separation of the lineages, likely associated with the retraction of this forest. We highlight the absence of any significant differentiation between the disjunct Amazonian and Atlantic Forest populations, at both part of the Cis‐Andean lineage. The phylogeographic profile of A. spadiceus diverges from the patterns observed in other Neotropical birds, which emphasizes the need for further research on the role of the forest corridors of the northern Andes as drivers of diversification, to provide comprehensive insights into the processes that led to the formation of the region's present‐day avian diversity. Our findings highlight the significance of Pleistocene Forest corridors north of the Andes as the key factor maintaining communication before the separation of the lineages of A. spadiceus. We highlight the absence of any significant differentiation between the disjunct Amazonian and Atlantic Forest populations, both part of the Cis‐Andean lineage. (Selbst-)Zerstörung der Schuld—Chance der Entschuld(ig)ung: Schuld und Schulden in der Lyrik von Attila József
The article examines the questions of guilt and debt in the Hungarian poetry of the late modern period, notably in the poetry of Attila József. An important characteristic of the concept of guilt in the modern era is that it unites the question of morality with that of the economy. This connection is confirmed by a current problem in the field of cultural studies: The German terms Schuld (guilt) and Schulden (debt) are viewed by recent cultural history research as significant driving forces and preconditions for cultural processes (both relate to shortages and errors which must be remedied, evened out, effaced or indeed generated or multiplied) which give rise to social and historical ties and determinations. This research attempts to formulate cultural strategies and solutions for dealing with the problem of unrestrained growth and the moralisation of debt. My article examines these issues as a problem of language (the language of poetry). Whilst Attila József ’s poetry does address the need to search for opportunities to forgive—both morally and financially—and to break the determining ties of moral and financial indebtedness, József believes this is only possible by implementing a certain manner of speech or a type of language whose forgiveness of debt and guilt alike as well as its liberating effect cannot be achieved by strategies, methods or practices.
First Documentation Of Combinatorial Song Syntax In A Suboscine Passerine Species
Birds with songs having two or more acoustically distinct elements can arrange them either rigidly (i.e., in the same sequence) or flexibly. Flexible song syntax can be achieved either by varying the number of repetitions of elements or by combining elements in different ways. Combinatorial syntax has been documented only in the songs of oscine passerines and in one nonpasserine, but not in the suboscine passerines. Dawn and day songs of a tyrant flycatcher, the Flammulated Attila (Attila flammulatus), were recorded in Costa Rica. Flexible syntax was noted in both dawn and day song. Attilas not only varied the number of repetitions of their song elements but also combined elements in various ways. This appears to be the first reported case of combinatorial song syntax in a suboscine species.
Halas´s Poems in the Translation by A. Straka
The paper intends to point out to the translating activity of Anton Straka, cultural attaché of the Czechoslovak Republic in Hungary during the interwar period, particularly in relation to František Halas´s piece of work called Staré ženy/Old Women. The piece of work had been translated several times but in the given period of time it was Straka´s translation titled Anyókák that stood out. The work or its translation was published by the Publishing House of Eugen Prager in Bratislava in cooperation with magazine Szép Szó. Anton Straka did the translation with the help of a well-known poet Attila József as well as Boris Palotai. Thanks to the cooperation with Attila József the poem Anyókák/Old Women was first published in magazine Szép Szó. The whole of the translation process has been preserved in the records which are found in the Petőfi literary museum in Budapest.
Assessment of need and practice for assistive technology and telecare for people with dementia—The ATTILA (Assistive Technology and Telecare to maintain Independent Living At home for people with dementia) trial
The objective of this study was to define current assistive technology and telecare (ATT) practice for people with dementia living at home. This is a randomized controlled trial (N = 495) of ATT assessment and ATT installation intervention, compared with control (restricted ATT package). ATT assessment and installation data were collected. Qualitative work identified value networks delivering ATT, established an ATT assessment standard. ATT was delivered by public and not-for-profit telecare networks. ATT assessments showed 52% fidelity to the ATT assessment standard. Areas of assessment most frequently leading to identifying ATT need were daily activities (93%), memory (89%), and problem-solving (83%). ATT needs and recommendations were weakly correlated (τ = 0.242; P < .000), with ATT recommendations and installations moderately correlated (τ = −0.470; P < .000). Half (53%) of recommended technology was not installed. Safety concerns motivated 38% of installations. Assessment recommendations were routinely disregarded at the point of installation. ATT was commonly recommended for safety and seldom for supporting leisure.
