From Dust to Digital
2015
\"Much of worldâ s documentary heritage rests in vulnerable, little-known and often inaccessible archives. Many of these archives preserve information that may cast new light on historical phenomena and lead to their reinterpretation. But such rich collections are often at risk of being lost before the history they capture is recorded. This volume celebrates the tenth anniversary of the Endangered Archives Programme at the British Library, established to document and publish online formerly inaccessible and neglected archives from across the globe. From Dust to Digital showcases the historical significance of the collections identified, catalogued and digitised through the Programme, bringing together articles on 19 of the 244 projects supported since its inception. These contributions demonstrate the range of materials documented â including rock inscriptions, manuscripts, archival records, newspapers, photographs and sound archives â and the wide geographical scope of the Programme. Many of the documents are published here for the first time, illustrating the potential these collections have to further our understanding of history.\"
Digitization of Archival Collections by Libraries in Pakistan
2016
In the backdrop of a case of a major archive digitization initiative completed by a Library in Pakistan to preserve a decaying last copy of an Urdu News Magazine from 18th century, the author highlights the threats to documentary heritage in general and in Pakistan in particular. The paper gives a comprehensive discussion of the digitization process, its issues, challenges and constraints by highlighting how in Pakistan, libraries and documentary heritage are facing neglect and a threat for extinction due the environmental, economic and political conditions and human threats like terrorism. Discussing the practical and operational problems of digitization work in an environment where the archival digitization is not a common practice, the paper suggests some workable strategies and solutions to overcome the barriers and bottlenecks. The paper is a good example to educate the future digitizers in Pakistan and offers workable suggestions and many thought provoking ideas for local librarians for saving the decaying archives and rare materials held in their libraries, by collective and collaborative digitization efforts.

A journey through literature from the first hand-made books to Shakespeare, the Brontèe sisters, and the Brothers Grimm--and including cookery, science, and music. A handmade gospel hidden in a saint's coffin; a huge atlas that takes six people to lift; a tiny prayer book carried by a queen to her execution; the original handwritten manuscript of Alice in Wonderland; books so rare and valuable they are kept in a bomb-proof store-room: the British Library is an amazing place.
The Egerton Gospel (Egerton Papyrus 2 + Papyrus Köln VI 255)
2019
In this commentary on the Egerton Gospel, Lorne R. Zelyck presents a fresh paleographical analysis and thorough reconstruction of the fragmentary text, based on significant parallels with other early Jewish and Christian literature, which leads to new readings and interpretations.
