[...]it has the potential to demean the academic areas in whose fields of study the receiving texts lie. [...]to privilege the illumination of Antiquity detracts from the question of how later societies, including our own, engage with the Classical past.

Bewitching programme of events for EastSide Arts Festival
Singer [Amanda St John] and veteran musician [Nick Lowe] are both lined up for EastSide Arts Festival \"EastSide Arts is helping to expand the provision of excellent and accessible arts across the city, reaching out to people and communities who might not otherwise have such opportunities to engage with the arts.\" Ms [Roisin McDonough] also described EastSide as \"a key player in the creative, social and economic regeneration and reputation of the area\". \"It is one of the most popular highlights of a successful development strategy for the arts in east Belfast,\" she added.
NICK LOWE AND LOS STRAIGHTJACKETS The Quality Holiday Revue Yep Roc
This is essentially a live version of Nick Lowe's outstanding seasonal album of 2013, Quality Street - A Seasonal Selection For All The Family . There are few who can rival Lowe's command and understanding of irony in vintage pop nor his affection for the genre.
Ho-ho, indeed Nick Lowe adds his trademark humor to Christmas album
[Nick Lowe] also coaxed some new Christmas songs out of smart friends. Ron Sexsmith penned a jazz piece, \"Hooves on the Roof,\" while [Ry Cooder] wrote the lyrics for the crying-by-the-mistletoe song \"A Dollar Short of Happy.\" \"When I told him I was up to my neck in a Christmas album, he reacted with a sniff of contempt,\" Lowe says. \"Then, he sent me some words and I thought they were great.\" The album contains just one seasonal cliche: \"Silent Night.\" \"There's a reason it's the most covered song at this time of year,\" Lowe says. \"It's a great tune.\" Even so, he retooled the classic as a rockabilly rave-up. Lowe's transformation into the new St. Nick dovetails with the bold move he made in 2000 to deepen his perspective and slow the pace of his songs. He says the transition wasn't nearly as hard for him as it was for his audience. \"They stayed away in droves,\" he says. Lowe still performs some old songs in concert. \"My rule is that you have to pull them off on an acoustic guitar,\" he says. Lowe wants to maintain a similar balance with his Christmas concert.
Nick's Lowe point turns out fine
He was supposed to be playing at St Patrick's Church in Ballymacarrett but officials from the EastSide arts festival emailed us ticket buyers to say the gig had been switched due to 'unforeseen circumstances' -- a loyalist band parade along the Newtownards Road.
