This pioneering research introduces a telemedicine-based baby incubator designed to accurately monitor premature babies' electrical heart signals and respiratory rates. The research aims to monitor premature babies, especially those related to heart and respiratory problems. This research combines telemedicine technology with the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) method to obtain respiratory rate values from electrocardiogram (ECG) signal leads directly. This research contribution can be used for simultaneous and noninvasive monitoring of heart electrical signals and respiratory rate. By leveraging existing telemedicine infrastructure, this incubator enables real-time monitoring. Using a data-driven approach with premature babies as subjects, respiratory signals are captured using sensitive sensors and analyzed via the DWT method. The results show that the accuracy of this telemedicine-based incubator is superior in monitoring respiratory rate compared to conventional methods with a P-value>0.05. This study confirms the effectiveness of DWT-based telemedicine incubators in monitoring the breathing of premature babies, thereby offering superior performance compared to traditional methods. The implications resulting from this research as a whole, this telemedicine-based baby incubator marks a significant advancement in the care of premature babies, ensuring precise and real-time breathing monitoring.

Preterm parents face higher risks of postpartum depression and anxiety, affecting bonding and infant development. Sensory stimulation shows promise, but its long-term impact on parental mental health needs further study.
This study aimed to evaluate whether a home-based integrated sensory stimulation program, administered to preterm infants by their parents, could alleviate parental mental health issues and enhance maternal bonding and parenting competence.
The program, including tactile, auditory, visual, gustatory, and olfactory stimuli, was assessed in a block-randomized controlled trial from November 2018 to January 2020. A total of 200 parents of preterm infants were recruited, and the intervention continued at home until the infants reached six months corrected age. Parents' depression and anxiety were assessed using validated scales at baseline, and at first, third, and sixth month follow-ups.
The intervention group included 98 parents, and the control group comprised 102 parents. At the six-month follow-up, the intervention group demonstrated significant improvements in maternal depression, state anxiety, and trait anxiety compared to the control group. In the mixed linear model, the intervention was associated with reductions in maternal trait anxiety (d =-2.18; 95% CI: -4.30, -0.06), paternal trait anxiety (d =-3.37; 95% CI: -5.62, -1.11) and state anxiety (d =-4.63; 95% CI: -7.00, -2.26).
The home-based integrated sensory stimulation program, when provided by parents to preterm infants, was effective in improving parents' mental health and can serve as an alternative treatment for postpartum depression and anxiety in parents of preterm infants at home.

Background
The birth of a preterm baby and subsequent hospitalization in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) pose significant emotional challenges for fathers. Fathers often suppress their feelings to fulfill a supportive role, but active participation in caregiving may alleviate their stress and enhance bonding. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of a support program on the stress and anxiety of fathers during their first encounter with a preterm baby.
Methods
This randomized clinical trial (RCT) was conducted with a 1:1 allocation ratio at Shahid Motahari Hospital, Urmia, Iran. Eligible fathers (
n
= 80) of preterm babies were randomly assigned to either an experimental (
n
= 40) or a control (
n
= 40) group using a random block method with block sizes of four. Due to dropouts, 37 fathers in the experimental group and 36 in the control group were included in the analysis. The experimental group received a support program, including individualized informational and emotional support, in addition to standard NICU support. The control group received only standard NICU support. Anxiety was measured using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Only the state anxiety subscale), before the first encounter and three days post-birth. Stress was assessed on day three using the Parental Stressor Scale: NICU (PSS: NICU).
Results
Post-intervention, the experimental group exhibited significantly lower mean PSS: NICU scores (M = 64.32, SD = 24.12) compared to the control group (M = 109.75, SD = 22.24; mean difference=-45.43, 95% CI [-34.58, -56.26],
p
< 0.001). Among the subscales of stress, the parent-child relationship and parenting roles, despite a significant decrease after the intervention in the experimental group, still had the highest stress for fathers with preterm babies. The mean State anxiety score in the experimental group (M = 43.21, SD = 9.68) was significantly lower than in the control group (M = 54.22, SD = 10.39; mean difference= -11.01, 95% CI [-6.31, -15.69],
p
< 0.001), indicating reduced anxiety.
Conclusion
The structured support program significantly reduced stress and anxiety among fathers of preterm babies. These findings suggest that health policymakers should consider integrating such interventions into NICU care protocols to support paternal well-being and family-centered care.

Background: Prematurity complications in the first year contribute to one million children die and each year around 15 million babies are born prematurely. Prematurity is still a major health problem worldwide. Premature babies with LBW are at risk of developing growth disorders, especially body weight. One intervention that can be given is visual-tactile-kinesthetic stimulation. This stimulation is a stimulus series that provides sensory and motor experiences so that premature babies can show their appropriate growth progress. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of H-HOPE plus kinesthetic with VCO on the growth of premature infants. Methods: This type of experimental design study with pretest-posttest with control group design with independent variables was intervention in the form of H-HOPE plus Kinesthetic with VCO and Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC). The samples in this study were preterm post-treatment infants at Hospital. Sampling uses probability sampling technique with random sampling. The number of samples in this study is 30 respondents with 15 people in the intervention and control groups. Results: The results of giving H-Hope plus kinesthetic and VCO interventions for 14 days in increasing body weight obtained sig value of 0.001 with mean ± SD (612.27 ± 80.82). Conclusion: H-Hope plus kinesthetic with VCO is more effective in increasing body weight.

Background. The birth of a premature baby needing to be hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) endangers the initial mother-baby relationship, affecting mother-baby attachment. Therefore, it seems necessary to provide mothers of premature babies with appropriate nursing support. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effects of spiritual self-care training on the mother-baby attachment of mothers giving birth to premature babies hospitalized in the NICU.Methods. This was a semi-experimental study with pre-test/post-test design conducted on 60 mothers with babies admitted to the NICU of Taleghani Hospital of Ilam (30 participants in each of the intervention and control groups).Two questionnaires were used for data collection, including a demographic information questionnaire and the Maternal Postnatal Attachment Scale (MPAS). Five self-care training sessions (45 minutes each) were held for mothers of the intervention group according to a self-care booklet prepared by the researcher. The attachment questionnaire was again completed after one week of the last training sessions by all participants, and the data were analyzed using SPSS version 22 software. Descriptive statistics were used to present quantitative (mean ±SD) and qualitative (frequency, %) variables. The normality of the data was checked using the Kolmogorov Smirnov test, and the MANOVA and univariate analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) tests were used to investigate the effects of the training on mother-baby attachment. The statistical significance level was considered P<0.05.Results. The means of the total attachment score in the intervention and control groups were obtained as 51.73 and 56.43 at the pretest and 53.36 and 49.77 at the post-test, respectively, indicating that spiritual self-care training was effective in improving mother-baby attachment (P<0.05).Conclusion. Our results showed that spiritual self-care training augmented mothers’ attachment to their babies hospitalized at the NICU. According to the results of the present study, it is suggested to pave the ground in clinical environments by educating nurses and caregivers and supporting the mother and the baby through spiritual self-care interventions to promote maternal attachment and improve their conditions.Practical Implications. Rapid systematic review of neonatal COVID-19 including a case of presumed vertical transmission

ObjectiveTo carry out a systematic review of the available studies on COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) in neonates seen globally since the onset of the COVID-19 global pandemic in 2020. The paper also describes a premature baby with reverse transcription (RT)-PCR-positive COVID-19 seen at the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, UK.DesignWe conducted a multifaceted search of the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Embase, Medline and PubMed from 1 December 2019 to 12 May 2020 to harvest articles from medical journals and publications reporting cases of COVID-19 in neonates from anywhere in the world. Additional searches were also done so as not to miss any important publications. Write-up was in line with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, the protocol for the review was registered with International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO), and risk of bias was analysed with the Newcastle-Ottawa tool. Additionally, the preterm neonate with COVID-19 from our hospital is also reported.ResultsThe systematic review has revealed eight studies where neonates have been described to have confirmed COVID-19, with low risk of bias. Of the 10 reported cases elsewhere, only three are likely to be vertically transmitted, while seven occurred in the postperinatal period and are likely to have been postnatally acquired. All neonates had a mild course, recovered fully and were negative on retesting. Our case of COVID-19 in a 32-week premature baby from the UK was delivered by emergency caesarean section, with the mother wearing a face mask and the family having no contact with the neonate, suggesting vertical transmission. On day 33, the neonate was asymptomatic but was still RT-PCR-positive on nasopharyngeal airway swab.ConclusionsNeonatal infection is uncommon, with only two previously reported cases likely to be of vertical transmission. The case we report is still RT-PCR-positive on day 28 and is asymptomatic. Ongoing research is needed to ascertain the epidemiology of COVID-19 in neonates.

Simulation Training Needs of Nurses for Nursing High-Risk Premature Infants: A Cross-Sectional Study

Opportunities fomr clinical training in the newborn nursery and neonatal intensive care units (NICU) are becoming insufficient and limited to observation-oriented training. Premature infants admitted to the NICU require specialized and highly sophisticated care. Therefore, this descriptive cross-sectional study aimed to understand nurses’ educational needs for establishing a high-risk premature infant nursing simulation training program. It used a descriptive cross-sectional design. We conducted a survey involving 99 newborn nursery and NICU nurses; data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, a paired t-test, an Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA), a Borich needs analysis, and the locus for focus to confirm educational priorities. The scores indicating the importance of nursing high-risk premature infants were higher than those of performance. Results indicated that the highest educational need was in the “treatment and procedure” domain. After deriving the priority of educational needs using the Borich needs analysis and the locus for focus, “maintenance of various tubes” showed the highest priority. By identifying the training priorities for high-risk premature infants nursing using various analytical frameworks, an extended reality simulation program met nurses’ high-risk premature infant nursing educational needs. Training for high-risk premature infants treatment and procedures—maintaining various tubes—is highly demanded by nurses and should be prioritized.
