In harm's way
\"The body of world-famous journalist Jeanette Thiels is discovered the day after Christmas, frozen in a snow-covered garden just steps from her hotel on Sandhamn Island. Detective Thomas Andreasson finds it highly unlikely that it was some bizarre accident. After all, the relentless war-zone correspondent was no stranger to conflict and controversy--both professional and, of late, very personal. Who would want to see her dead is another story. Enlisting the help of attorney Nora Linde, his longtime friend on holiday, Thomas is anxious for the answers. But he and Nora don't have to look far. The clues are leading them closer to home than they imagined. Jeanette may have made a career out of exposing corruption at the highest levels of world power, but she was also a woman with secrets of her own, and they're coming to light on Sandhamn. For Thomas and Nora, unearthing the deeply rooted deceptions behind Jeanette's death could now put those closest to her in harm's way, too\"--Amazon.com.
Q&A with Kendall Turner, author of \Golem Girl\
Going to law school was this sort of what-is-happening experience to me in terms of gender relations. In Golem Girl, the couples make vows in which the woman promises not to gain more than 5 lbs, keep hair long, nails polished, etc. Is the public aspect of the vows meant to serve as sort of a check on power? I did a lot of work related to sexual harassment in the judiciary as a lawyer.

Romancing the Tomes
This provocative collection of essays by scholars from the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand explores the uneasy relationship between law and popular culture from a feminist perspective. The essays not only consider the representation of law in popular culture, including film, crime fiction and the media, but also the representation of popular culture in legal texts. Romancing the Tomes shows that while popular culture is bewitched by law, particularly anything to do with sex and crime, law is anxious to resist the unruliness of popular culture. The collection is multidisciplinary, with contributors from a range of areas, including cultural studies, women's studies and legal studies. The essays are complemented by the poems of prize-winning lawyer-poet, MTC Cronin. Romancing the Tomes will appeal to a wide cross-section of academic and general readers. It is suitable for inclusion on undergraduate reading lists for law, history, women's studies, criminology and media studies, as well as any other course with an interest in cultural studies.
The high tide club
\"When ninety-nine-year-old heiress Josephine Bettendorf Warrick summons Brooke Trappnell to Talisa Island, her 20,000 acre remote barrier island home, Brooke is puzzled. Everybody in the South has heard about the eccentric millionaire mistress of Talisa, but Brooke has never met her. Josephine's cryptic note says she wants to discuss an important legal matter ... Over a few meetings, the ailing Josephine spins a tale of old friendships, secrets, betrayal and a long-unsolved murder. She tells Brooke she is hiring her for two reasons: to protect her island and legacy from those who would despoil her land, and secondly, to help her make amends with the heirs of the long dead women who were her closest friends, the girls of The High Tide Club\"--Amazon.com.
For Alafair Burke's heroine, Olivia Randall, crime solving gets personal: Righting Past Wrongs
\"She's not quite as messed up as some of the women we've gotten used to reading about in crime fiction in the last few years,\" says best-selling crime novelist Alafair Burke of the heroine of her latest stand-alone thriller, The Ex. \"But she's definitely messed up.\" To Burke, Olivia is \"one of those extremely ambitious people where nothing's enough.\" While you can't please everyone online, Burke clearly impressed one young fan at the Bouchercon Mystery Convention in Raleigh, NC, where the writer sat down for this interview. A woman, her two children in tow, stopped by to thank Burke \"for always being very sweet to my daughter. She thinks the world of you.\"
