The stories clothes tell : voices of working-class Japan
\"This compelling social history tells the stories of ordinary people in modern Japan. Tatsuichi Horikiri spent a lifetime searching out old items of clothing and oral history accounts to shed light on those who used these items. He reveals not only the often desperate lives of these people, he illuminates their hopes, aspirations, and human values\"--Provided by publisher.
Hiratsuka Raichō and Early Japanese Feminism
2006
Tomida seems less taken with and even at times ignores Hiratsuka's fondness for the irrational-her interest in mysticism, her belief in spiritual healing, and the disjointed, erotic quality of her 1911 Seito manifesto-and clearly approves of Hiratsuka's increasing awareness of the problems of working-class and impoverished women; her brave, pioneering efforts to bring lawmakers' attention to women's vulnerability to venereal disease via their husbands; and instances of consistency in Hiratsuka's philosophy.
