How Environmental Knowledge Management Promotes Employee Green Behavior: An Empirical Study

As environmental protection has gradually become the focus of enterprises’ development, employee green behavior becomes an important and key antecedent to study this issue, but there have been less studies conducted with knowledge management. As a result, drawing on the theory of planned behavior and the organizational support theory, this study investigates how environmental knowledge practices (environmental knowledge sharing and environmental knowledge application) affect employee green behavior by using a questionnaire survey administered to 266 employees in China to reveal their complex relationship mechanism. The results show that environmental knowledge application and environmental knowledge sharing have a positive effect on employee green behavior; environmental behavioral intention mediates the relationship between environmental knowledge application and employee green behavior, and between environmental knowledge sharing and employee green behavior; green perceived organizational support positively moderates the relationship between environmental behavioral intention and employee green behavior. The findings shed new light on the development of employee green behavior literature and provide practical reference for strategies related to environmental protection for managers.

This study examined the effect of Perceived Environmental Knowledge, Drive for Environmental Responsibility, Perceived Consumer Effectiveness, Attitude Toward Green Consumption, and Perceived Marketplace Influence on Green Consumption Intention using Generation Z consumers in a developing country as the statistical unit. It also explored the differences in gender, family economic status, and parents’ education for the hypothesized relationships. The results show a positive and significant effect of Perceived Environmental Knowledge, Drive for Environmental Responsibility, Attitude toward Sustainable Consumption, and Perceived Marketplace Influence on green consumption intention. Nevertheless, the results indicate that Perceived Consumer Effectiveness has a negative and significant effect on green consumption intention. The results also show that only the effect of perceived environmental knowledge on green consumption intention remains constant across gender, family economic status, and family education. Thus, policies and initiatives that promote environmental education and sustainable consumption and support sustainable entrepreneurship are highly encouraged.

Pro-Environmental Behavior: The Role of Public Perception in Infrastructure and the Social Factors for Sustainable Development

The importance of public participation in the successful implementation of climate change-related policies has been highlighted in previous research. However, existing environmental behavioral studies have not sufficiently addressed the relationship among perceptions of climate change, living conditions, social demographic factors and environmentally friendly behavior. Therefore, this paper investigates whether environmental perception and other social determinants such as living conditions and the subjective evaluation of social inequality affect environmentally friendly behavior. We use survey data (N = 1500) collected in Mumbai, India, and analyze our hypotheses using a structural equation model (SEM). The empirical results confirm the direct and indirect influences of environmentally related perceptions, the subjective evaluation of living environments, social factors and other demographic characteristics on pro-environmental behavior. In particular, we find a robust positive effect of education level on pro-environmental behavior, where we observe both a direct impact and an indirect impact through positive effects on environmental knowledge. Thus, we confirm the importance of living environment, social equality and education in sustainable urban planning and efforts to mitigate climate change.

Owing to the green revolution, environmental problems have now become
some of the most important issues worldwide. Environmental knowledge
management, which combines the strengths of environmental management
and knowledge management, will become a popular tool for businesses in
the near future. In this paper, through interviews of staff at
different levels and in different departments of the business, i. e.
managers and engineers and using the environmental knowledge
circulation process, the authors evaluate the success of environmental
knowledge management when applied to China Steel Corporation in Taiwan.
From the case study, the authors found that China Steel Corporation has
applied the environmental knowledge circulation process for over thirty
years. The company continually improves its environmental and financial
performance through environmental knowledge creation, environmental
knowledge accumulation, environmental knowledge sharing, environmental
knowledge utilization and environmental knowledge internalization.
Water pollution and air emissions have reduced year on year and total
energy consumption has reduced by 20 % from 1979 to 2006. On the other
hand, China Steel Corporation also makes a profit and reduces cost
through energy sold, by-products and recycling. Continuous improvement
in environmental knowledge management has rendered China Steel
Corporation in the most profitable steel company in Taiwan and the
world's twenty fifth largest steel producing company in 2006.

A destination’s personality as a factor in tourists’ environmental knowledge management

PurposeEnvironmental knowledge management (EKM) has been studied mainly owing to the increasing awareness of environmental issues. Such issues have generated a warning in the tourism industry that has stimulated a new wave of research on EKM. EKM forges landscape characteristics and so destination image. In turn, EKM sounds affecting tourism destination which calls for destination personality which shows a research context less explored. From a knowledge management perspective, The present research aims to investigate on EKM to understand how it leverages tourists' and destination personality.Design/methodology/approachWith the intent of exploring EKM, the research uses a quantitative analysis on a sample of 2,222 young Chinese tourists. In this context, EKM is linked with destination’s personality and tourists’ personalities, their satisfaction with the destination and their behavioral intentions.FindingsBy SPSS regression model, EKM and destination personality are positively linked. This positive relationship is also reflected on destination personality and destination satisfaction, behavioral intention.Originality/valueThe authors’ original contribution to the knowledge management literature extends the new wave of research on EKM. The research also proves the need to make a close collaboration between tourists, the local community and marketers. Marketers need to pay more attention to what tourists want to do and see in the place visited. In a nutshell, there is the need of enforcing and promoting EKM.
