Overview
The oldest and complete translation of the Qur’an into a European vernacular language, Ryer’s French translation served the basis for further translations into other languages such as English, German, Dutch and Russian. It was instrumental in introducing the West into the tenets of the Islamic faith. Ryer also included a brief summary for Non-Muslim readers by noting several customs such as fasting during Ramadan.
