يجمع الكتاب مادة الحرائر (النساء) كما وردت في اللسان حسب ترتيب المؤلف بدءا من الهمزة وإنتهاء بالياء وقام المؤلف بقراءة اللسان من أوله إلى آخره بصبر وجلد وصمت وكتب بخطه تلك المادة حسب تبويب المؤلف وبعد صف المادة وجمعها التي استغرقت أكثر من ربع قرن كانت المادة جاهزة حيث تم فهرستها فهرسة شاملة تضمنت الآيات القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية وألفاظ وأشعار الكتاب في صبر وتأن.
