في هذا الكتاب يقدم بارسونز تفاصيل عن التجارة في الإسكندرونة، وعن المدينة وضواحيها وعن الر حلات التي قام بها في المنطقة، ووصف للمدن والقرى والطرق الأخرى التي مر بها وصفا دقيقا، فهو بصفته قنصلا اهتم بوصف أسلوب معيشة القناصل الأخرى. وفي أثناء مروره بصحراء البادية السورية في سنة (1774) سجل وصفا مفصلا ومفعما بالحيوية للمناطق الممتدة من حلب إلى بغداد وكان وصفه للقافلة أثناء الترحال من أروع ما كتب عن حياة البادية، وفي كل موضع من مواضع الرحلة نشهد اهتماما كبيرا بالتجارة وبالحكومة وأساليب العيش.
