إن سورة الشعراء ترد على إتهام الماديين المكيين بأن نزول الوحي بالقرآن يساوق اتصال الشياطين بالكهان، وأنه لذلك لا يخرج عن نمط كهانتهم، كما ترد عن إتهامهم للرسول علية الصلاة والسلام في دعوته إلى الوحدة في الألوهية بأنه شاعر. وجاء في نهايتها بعد الاستشهاد بالتاريخ في شأن بعض المجتمعات المادية، نفى أن يكون للشياطين صلة بالقرآن، وتوضيح عدم صلاحية الشياطين لتلقي الغيب على العموم، لأنهم مصدر شر، بينما القرآن مصدر هداية، وبيان استحالة أنهم يستطيعون تلقي القرآن من الله جل شأنه.
