تكمن أهمية هذا الكتاب في ربط الماسونية بالفكر الدبوبي الأوروبي وبالأفكار التأليهية التي مهدت الطريق أمام انبثاق عصر الأنوار. ويفند الكتاب الأغاليط التي شاعت في النصوص العربية عن الماسونية وتاريخها الملتبس، ويدحض، في الوقت نفسه، الرواية الماسونية التي تعيد بداياتها إلى نحو 2500 عام قبل الميلاد، ويبرهن على أنها جمعية حرفية حديثة من بين الجمعيات التي عرفتها أوروبا في العصور الوسطى. ويعقد المؤلف مقارنة بين الجمعيات الحرفية الأوروبية والطوائف الحرفية العربية ثم يعقد مقارنة إضافية بين الملاحدة العرب وأفكارهم، وبين الربوبية الأوروبية، وذلك في سياق استقرائي نكتشف من خلاله الفروق بين الإلحاد العربي الذي كان ينكر النبوات ولا ينكر الخالق، والفكر الدبوبي الأوروبي الذي لم ينكر الخالق، وإنما أنكر المعجزات الواردة في الكتاب المقدس.
