يقول المؤلف عن هذا الكتاب : حينما وقع بين يدي كتاب (الفروق اللغوية) للحسن أبو هلال العسكري قفزت إلى رأسي فكرة صياغة عمل يحاكي نفس الفكرة ولكن في اللغة الإنجليزية نظرا لندرة مثل هذا النوع من الأعمال اللغوية في المكتبة الإنجليزية واعتمد العسكري في كتابه على جمع مجموعة من الكلمات والألفاظ التي تبدو مترادفة ويتضح الفرق اللغوي بينها. وهذا الكتاب يحاول أن يقوم بنفس المهمة في اللغة الإنجليزية سيرا على نفس المنهج الذي انتهجه العسكري.
