يعالج هذا الكتاب مرحلة مأساوية عاشها الموارنة وامتدت من العام 1845 إلى العام 1867، وكادت تؤدي إلى اقتلاعهم من أرضهم ومحيطهم وجذورهم، وزرعهم في أرض الجزائر، وذلك من أجل تحقيق أغراض مشاريع الاستيطان الفرنسية وفئات من رجال الأكليروس والسياسة الموارنة فما هي الظروف التي نسج فيها هذا المشروع الفرنسي-الماروني ؟ وما هي المراحل التي مر بها ؟ ومن هم رواده ؟ وما هي العقبات التي واجهته ؟ سيحاول الكتاب الإجابة استنادا إلى الوثائق الرسمية والمراسلات الدبلوماسية والدراسات التي كتبها معاصرو تلك المرحلة كما سيحاول إلقاء الأضواء على محطات \"التهجير والتوطين\" التي رافقت تاريخ لبنان وتكاد اليوم تأسر واقعه ومستقبله.
