سنحاول فيما يلي أن نكون من مضمون خطبة الحسن ومن أقوال معاصريه عنه، رأيا عن النوع تشكيل حياته الشخصية ومعرفة معنى الوجود البشري، وتحديد الغاية والهدف والمهمة. ومن هنا نريد أن نتعرف على موقف الحسن من مشكلة دينية كانت أكثر المشاكل حيوية في زمانه وهي مشكلة حرية الإرادة \"القدر\" وسنستند في ذلك إلى رسالة الحسن إلى عبد الملك بن مروان التي هي، كما المتميز لتقواه، أي عن الصيغة التي كان يحاول بها، انطلاقا من المعطيات الدينية التي نشأ فيها نعتقد، الرسالة القدرية القديمة الوحيدة التي نعرفها.
