التجريب في الرواية هو تجاوز التقاليد الروائية السائدة، الذي عمد إليه الروائي العربي عندما أدرك أن العناصر السردية التقليدية في الرواية من شخصيات نموذجية وفضاء واقعي وزمن متسلسل رتيب تنظمه حبكة قائمة على السببية، لم تعد تثير اهتمام القارئ النخبوي، كما أنها لم تعد تتسع إلى إشكاليات إنسان هذا الزمن، لذلك أخذ يجرب طرائق بديلة، تسعى إلى إحداث تراكم كمي لعله يؤدي في النتيجة إلى تغيير نوعي في بنية الرواية واشتغالها الفني. لذلك نجد أن التجاوز الذي قاربه هؤلاء الروائيون كان في سبيل مقاربة شكل فني يتسع إلى المضمونات الجديدة التي بدأت الرواية تخوض فيها.
