يتناول كتاب (العقل والوجود) والذي قامه بتأليفه (يوسف كرم) في حوالي (221) صفحة من القطع المتوسط موضوع (العقل والوجود) مستعرضا المحتويات التالية أرخنا للفلسفة اليونانية، ثم الفلسفة الأوروبية في العصر الوسيط، وأخيرا للفلسفة الحديثة، وكنا كلما صادفنا مذهبا كليا أو رأيا جزئيا عقبنا عليه بالتأييد أو التفنيد ؛ إذ إننا نعتقد أن مؤرخ الفلسفة فيلسوف أيضا، وأنه لا يليق به أن يضع نفسه موضع الببغاء، فيقصر مهمته على حكاية أقوال الفلاسفة دون عناية بتدبرها والحكم فيها. بيد أن تعقيبنا كان يجيء مقتضبا لأننا كنا بسبيل التاريخ أولا. ففي هذا الكتاب نعالج المسائل لذاتها محاولين الكشف عن وجه الحق فيها، وعنوانه يؤذن بأننا نقدم دراسة العقل، كما يقدم العامل امتحان الآلة قبل الشروع في استخدامها.
