يكاد يكون بين الدارسين المهتمين بالتراث الإسلام والعربية في الأندلس والمغرب إجماع أو ما يشبه الإجماع على أن شخصية لسان الدين بن الخطيب تأتي في مقدمة الشخصيات العلمية والأدبية التي أبدعت ذلك التراث وساهمت وبدأب وجلد، في إخصابه وإثرائه وكيف لا وقد أجرى صاحبها قلمه في تأليفه ما يزيد على سبعين كتابا في مختلف ألوان الإبداع والعلم والفكر مما صح له معه أن يقول في شيء غير قليل من الزهو والخيلاء : وإنما أنا روض والعلوم له غيث، فأي جنى إن شئته تجد وليس في هذا الروض، فيما نحسب، غير روض هذه الثقافة الإسلامية العربية في الأندلس من أولها إلى آخرها كما يقول المرحوم الأستاذ أحمد أمين (قد صفيت وتقطرت في لسان الدين بن الخطيب في تعدد مناحيه وسعة علمه وكثرة إنتاجه.
