Overview
This research explores the employment prospects offered by social media for Egyptian youth through an empirical field study based on a survey of university students. The study assumes that digital platforms have transcended their traditional roles of entertainment and communication to become economic spaces that provide opportunities for freelancing, entrepreneurship, and digital marketing. A descriptive survey method was applied using a questionnaire distributed among a diverse sample of students from various academic disciplines to assess their perceptions of such opportunities and their readiness to utilize them. Findings reveal that most respondents view social media as a promising tool for income generation, whether through e-marketing, content creation, or freelance work on digital platforms. The study also highlights that the most in-demand skills include the ability to manage digital campaigns, create engaging content, and use analytics tools to measure engagement. Results indicate that female respondents showed greater interest in areas such as Instagram marketing and managing business pages, while male respondents focused more on producing visual content on YouTube and TikTok. The analysis also identifies major obstacles faced by youth, including insufficient training, limited awareness of digital work regulations, and economic challenges related to income stability. The study concludes that social media represents a genuine opportunity to enhance youth employment in Egypt, but success requires supportive policies, specialized training programs, and the development of a legislative environment aligned with this transformation.
